Some days you just need a little retail therapy. So when I found myself with spare 30 minutes one Friday evening of a crazy week, I availed myself of the opportunity to pop into Loehmann’s.
That’s where I found this unusual top with cutout sleeves. I loved the color, I loved the details, I loved the way it draped forgivingly across the midsection–and most of all I loved the price ($25!).
Usually when I go shopping I try to follow the recommendation to only buy a piece that can create at least 3 outfits.
Since I’d picked this up spontaneously, I decided to try to follow this advice retroactively. Thus this working mom outfit is the first of 3 featuring my new top.
Now the easy way out would be to choose 3 different skirts and call it a day, but what fun is that? So I set myself a challenge of creating one at 3 of the 5 Levels of Working Mom Outfits.
First up: Date Night. The formula? Sassy shirt + skirt + serious silver jewelry + heels.
How short the skirt and high the heels depends on your particular style and comfort level. Mine are conservative enough that this outfit could also qualify as a Client Meeting look, at least where I work.
Next week I’ll show you outfit version #2: Weekend Chic.
- Do you have any rules of thumb when you go shopping?
- Can you make 3 outfits with any item in your closet?
Blouse: For Cynthia (similar, $25, JCPenney).
Skirt: LOFT (similar, $80, Lord & Taylor).
Sandals: Bettye Muller Bridget ($355, Neiman Marcus or similar, $97, Endless).
