Outfit post: Skirting the issue [Level 4]

Working mom Client Meeting outfit: Limited turquoise tee, Dolce & Gabbana tan miniskirt, Nine West turquoise sandals

When I turned 35, I suddenly felt self-conscious about showing skin–specifically, my legs. Maybe I had taken What Not To Wear’s “No Miniskirts After 35” rule to heart.

I put my shorter shorts in the back of the drawer and bought several pairs of Bermuda length. And this skirt, a Dolce & Gabbana (!) miracle find at Saks Off Fifth, hung unworn in my closet.

Work It Wednesdays: Working mom outfit photosFast forward to the other side of 40.

Maybe it was reaching this new milestone, or maybe it was writing repeatedly about body image and embracing and celebrating your best assets, but I had an epiphany.

It went like this: I am blessed to have inherited my mother’s slender legs. (Hurrah for chicken legs!) And they will never be any better looking or younger than they are right now, so why am I hiding them?

(Corollary epiphany: I will probably never own another Dolce & Gabbana anything. Why is it sitting in my closet?)

One day I’ll stop wearing miniskirts. Today is not that day.

Top: The Limited Cowlneck Tee. ($25).
Skirt: Dolce & Gabbana, darling (similar, $50, Mango).
Shoes: Nine West (similar, $44, Amazon)
