Site Spotlight: Artistic outfits with Blue Hue Wonderland

By IN Site Spotlight

Site Spotlight: Ann of Blue Hue WonderlandThis month in the Site Spotlight is Ann of Blue Hue Wonderland. An artist, Ann’s eye for beauty shows in both her outfits and her outfit photos.

About Ann

I am a visual artist and collaborative partner with my husband who is also an artist. We make mechanical cards and pictures plus a variety of other art pieces that we sell at fine arts shows in the US.

I also studied photography and enjoy creating photos with backgrounds that compliment the clothing.

About Blue Hue Wonderland

I see my blog focusing on the 40+ woman. I want to be seen as I age. I’m interested in fashion and enjoy experimenting with what I can wear.  My goal is to show clothing with an artistic flair that could inspire others to wear their own pieces in a more personalized way.

I started Blue Hue Wonderland at a time in my life when I was taking care of senior parents. I was tired of wearing way too many pairs of black stretch pants and tops. I decided to start a personal style blog almost one year ago just to see if I could do it. Blogging has become a passion for me and I enjoy the interaction with bloggers of all ages.

What she writes about

I wear designer pieces, old and new, with affordable and thrifted items. My interest is in combining textures and creating photos with a sense of place. I write about fashion choices as well as stories from my life.

Lately I’ve been doing more posts featuring more casual styling. As a creative person, I am always looking for ways to style clothing in a a offbeat manner, especially when choosing accessories.

[I’m thrilled once again to be included in this week’s links roundup, written and created by IFB, the Independent Fashion Bloggers.]

On a Trend Bender

Summer is actually the best time to play around with trends. You know why? Because summer is the the best time play around in general! With all the bold colors and prints, the great summer sales, and gorgeous weather, it’s hard not to get caught up in the spirit of going bold. This week’s roundup has wonderful links to get you in the mindset to try new trends, even ones you don’t think you’d look good in. We’ve even got a great DIY for leather shorts, if you’re crafty and don’t want to shell out the dough for a store-bought pair. And even if you’re not crafty, there’s a great guide to hitting the summer sales.

If you’re anything like me, it’s too easy to get caught up in a good deal, so I need all the help I can get not to overspend. Anyway, here are the links for the week. Enjoy!

Site Spotlight: 12 months, 12 styles, 1 Year of Fabulous

By IN Site Spotlight

My Year of Fabulous: Holly in Mod clothingToday in the Site Spotlight is Holly Hester of My Year of Fabulous, a blog about the personal style journey she kicked off in January. The process is revealing, informative and (best of all) very funny. (Plus, how many style bloggers also have an IMDB page?)

About Holly

My professional background is in sitcom writing.  I’ve written for shows such as “Ellen,” “Drew Carey” and “Sabrina, the Teenage Witch.”

After having kids I decided to quit the sitcom business and become a stay-at-home mom.  My husband and I moved to a farm in Northern California and we absolutely love it except one thing – my clothes are completely disgusting!

Three kids, two goats and one pig later, I have somehow slipped hopelessly into fashionless mom land.  I decided to start a blog in 2013 called, “My Year of Fabulous” where I try to look as fabulous as possible every single day for a year.

My hope is to inspire myself and other moms to climb out of their fashion ruts and throw away those big, bad, mom jeans forever.

About My Year of Fabulous

Each month I pick a style (rock and roll, Euro chic, Mod, etc) and I do my best to totally embody that style for the entire month.  My belief is that you can’t really find what style works for you unless you live in that style for a while.

Also, much to my surprise, I’ve discovered that people treat you differently according to the style of clothes you are wearing.  In Euro chic strangers opened doors for me.  In rock and roll, all the sketchy people at the skate park finally said hi to me and in Bohemian I was treated like a fun-loving, irresponsible twenty year old that just happened to have three children.

What she writes about

I write about how each style makes me feel and how inexpensively I can find each style – I’m a mom on a budget so most of my shopping is done at consignment and thrift stores.

Besides, since my kids and farm animals ruin most of my clothes anyway, I want to be in something that’s cute, but something that can get stained without me bursting into tears.  I also write about motherhood and life on a farm.

Site Spotlight: Taking a style journey with J’s Everyday Fashion

By IN Site Spotlight

In the Site Spotlight: J's Everyday FashionThis month in the Site Spotlight is J of J’s Everyday Fashion, a style and fashion advice blog that shows you how to translate professionally styled looks from catalogs and magazines into outfits anyone can wear. I especially like her description of her blog as a “safe place for style questions.” Don’t we wish every site were like that?

About J

My professional background is in corporate marketing. I lost my job due to the economy about 6 months into blogging and decided to do J’s full-time. I am now a successful entrepreneur and freelancer.

The blog is my full-time job, and along with my position as the Shopping Expert for VISIT FLORIDA, I do retail consulting for one of my favorite brands, a makeover show on IzonOrlando, personal shopping and closet consultations, and lots of public speaking throughout the year.

Above all, my goal is to provide content that helps women with their style journey. There is so much joy in looking great, and I feel honored to be a part of that for women across the globe!

About J’s Everyday Fashion

J’s Everyday Fashion was created to be an accessible, all-inclusive fashion destination, no matter who you are or where you are from. I want everyone to feel welcome to enjoy fashion as much as I do.

We’ve all made fashion mistakes, and we all struggle with bad shopping habits, body issues, small budgets, or even just having enough time to dedicate to getting dressed.

J’s is a place to talk about those issues and get inspired for new ways to conquer the ever-daunting question of “what should I wear?”

What she writes about

J’s Everyday Fashion provides outfit ideas, budget tips, shopping resources, and is a safe place for style questions. The purpose of J’s is to provide an accessible, pared-down version of fashion that makes anyone feel welcome to give it a try.

I share fashion disasters, experiments and successes, all in the hopes of passing along what I’m learning to my readers.

Site Spotlight: Unique geek chic with Fashion For Nerds

By IN Site Spotlight

Audi of Fashion for NerdsThis month in the Site Spotlight is Audi of Fashion For Nerds. It’s one of my favorite personal style blogs because Audi’s fashion sense is so utterly her own. She has a way of pairing items that is unexpected and original while also remaining wearable. I’m always inspired to try something new after reading her posts.

About Audi

I’m a 42-year-old scientist who works for a small start-up biotech company that is working on novel therapeutic treatments for cancer. I live and work in San Francisco, and am passionately fond of my city and its culture. I would describe my lifestyle as having an alternative bent. As a hobby I make hats, and sometimes sell them through Dark Garden corsetry here in the city.

I also occasionally do custom projects through the Etsy shop that is now mainly run by my husband Mark, who makes leather accessories. I enjoy San Francisco’s unique nightlife and events, dining out, travel, and live music. Mark and I share our home with a chuckwalla lizard and 2 beautiful pit mix dogs.

About Fashion For Nerds

I started Fashion for Nerds mainly because at the time I was working for a company where most of my coworkers weren’t concerned with clothing as a creative outlet, and I wanted a place to connect with other people who shared my interest in dressing for fun and self expression.

For the most part the blog is a daily lookbook, which allows me not only to catalog what I wear for future reference, but also to get feedback from others.

Often I try to dissect each outfit and explain how I put it together or how I could style it differently, and occasionally I write tutorials about specific topics such as showing tattoos (or not) for job interviews, layering, shopping, etc.

About her audience

I think my blog appeals to women who are wanting to add more flair to their outfits, are looking for different ways to style the items in their closets, or are trying to infuse their corporate or academic wardrobe with individuality.

Because I don’t have kids, I have the time to focus on things like fashion; as a result, many of my readers tend to be working moms who have spent years putting their own desires last and are ready to turn that around. That was an unexpected surprise for me, and I love it; I think it’s great to connect with people whose lives are very different from my own and to think that they might take something useful away from what they see or read on my blog.

I think my blog also appeals to women in their 40’s and 50’s who still want to have fun with clothing but who have the obvious constraints of work, being active and busy, and having to live within a budget.

I enjoy challenging the typical expectations of how a woman over 40 should dress but at the same time I have no desire to pass myself off as younger than I am, and I think this is a particular challenge for many women in my age bracket.

Site Spotlight: Get your pre-baby mojo back with Ain’t No Mom Jeans

By IN Site Spotlight

Ain't No Mom Jeans in the Site Spotlight

This month in the Site Spotlight is Ain’t No Mom Jeans. Authors Shana and Molly are moms who can show you how to look great every day, in clothes that work for real life with little ones. Post-partum moms will especially appreciate their features on how to dress around that tummy “pooch” (where were they when I needed them 7 years ago? ;).

About Shana and Molly

Shana and Molly met in a mom’s group, Urban Baby Denver, when their sons were less than 6 months old.  They clicked immediately over a shared love of NYC and fashion, and secretly coveted each other’s strollers.  They’ve been fast friends ever since, and are relentless style seekers – whether it’s the cutest, most comfy playground shoe or a highchair that is easy to clean and looks cool in your dining room.

You can read more about them and Ain’t No Mom Jeans here: http://www.aintnomomjeans.com/aboutanmj.html

About Ain’t No Mom Jeans

Ain’t No Mom Jeans is geared to moms who strive to be active, engaged moms…but who want to look good doing it!  We write for moms who don’t hesitate to swing on the swings with their kiddo, or chase a soccer ball around the park.  We write for moms who are living with sleep deprivation and spit-up in their hair, but know that a great scarf covers a multitude of sins.  We write for Moms who babywear like it’s their job, and can ride a scooter with the best of them (but want their bum in flattering denim as they scoot by).

What they write about

We cover all aspects of mom style: maternity, post-partum, nursing, back-to-work and beyond.  From time-to-time we will focus on date night or going-out style, but the vast majority of our articles are geared towards stylish everyday outfits that moms can wear while having fun with their kiddos.

Sacrifice our personal style just because we’re moms?  Never!  (All you need is a lot of creativity and a little dose of inspiration….)

Site Spotlight: Getting your fabulous back with Mommy Posh

By IN Site Spotlight

Mommy Posh Gina PomponioThis month in the Site Spotlight is Gina of Mommy Posh who blogs about getting–and staying–fabulous during motherhood.

About Gina Pomponio
I’m a stay at home mom, wife and socialpreneur based in New York City.  With a degree in English and passion for fashion and beauty, I launched my first blog in 2007, Miz Posh, a site catered to fashion trends, beauty products and celebrity lifestyle.

Then in 2009, during my pregnancy, I launched yet another blog, Mommy Posh, this time catered to motherhood and yes, fashion!

Aside from scheduling play dates, maintaining a household and chasing after an active toddler son, I am also very active on social media networks, freelancing as a “mom style” editor for Jenesequa, a fashion online and iPad magazine and updating my mom blog with everyday mom fashion and beauty tips.  I am also in the process of writing my first E-book focusing on motherhood and fashion.

About Mommy Posh
As a mom, it is so easy to forget the old you, the you who once loved to party, socialize with friends and most of all be pampered.  That is where Mommy Posh comes in.  I speak to moms about ways to embrace their inner and outer poshness.  With my daily mom beauty tips and fashion advice, I challenge my readers that just dabbing on a touch of lipgloss or adding a few key pieces to their wardrobe (without breaking the bank) can instantly make that mom feel good about herself.

My mom style icons are Victoria Beckham, Heidi Klum, Rachel Zoe and mom-to-be Beyonce.  These moms and women inspire me to take my brand to the next level.  They are true mompreneurs.

What she writes about
Mommy Posh is not just your typical mom blog; I take it to the next level. I discuss brands that either I or my family has tried and only do product reviews on those brands that I truly stand behind, 110%. I wouldn’t have it any other way.
